permafrost, cryomorphology, ground iceAbstract
The author reflects on terminology related to periglacial processes and permafrost, noting a lack of consistency among U.S. geomorphologists. He supports a broad and flexible use of the term “periglacial” and suggests “cryomorphology” as a useful alternative. A geometric-based classification of ground ice is also proposed.
