ORIGINAL TITLE: Der Stand der Kenntnisse über alt- und mittelpleistozäne Periglazial-Erscheinungen in Mitteleuropa
Studies of river terraces, gravel deposits, and loess in Central Europe indicate that gravel deposits are generally of periglacial-fluvial origin, although precise dating of terraces is only locally possible. The literature on loess is extensive and well documents its distribution and formation conditions; however, the origin of some banded or layered loess deposits, which may belong to the last interglacial, remains unclear. Observations of periglacial weathering and denudation from the Early and Middle Pleistocene are still sparse. The widespread occurrence of Late Pleistocene periglacial phenomena makes it difficult to distinguish older forms, with exceptions limited to areas where ice-age periglacial debris accumulated.
