Dartmoor Excursion

Abstract

Fieldwork on July 12, 1964, in the Dartmoor massif and surrounding areas in South Devon revealed widespread evidence of Pleistocene periglacial activity. Observations included head deposits, loess-like covers, deformation structures and features linked to solifluction and frost weathering. Tors and altiplanation terraces were also documented. Findings suggest at least two periglacial phases, the earlier of which had a greater geomorphic impact.
