ORIGINAL TITLE: Signification paléoclimatique des formes périglaciaires reliques du Québec Méridional
Cryogenic morphosculpture such as block polygons microrelief and relict high density network channels developed in southern Quebec after 7500 BP. This relict periglacial features are contemporaneous of the Holocene forest recorded in palynological diagrams. The microreliefs are related to local destruction of the forest cover by fire or other azonal processes; they are not indicative of cold paleoclimatic oscillations. From a morphoclimatic point of view, they belong to a zone of potentia} periglacial morphosculpture.
The late glacial period in southem Quebec is characterized by the occurrence both of permafrost and taiga. Due to the continentality of the paleoclimate, forest grew soon after the deglaciation, except in a zone of about 30 km around the Champlain sea where toundra occurred. Periglacial morphosculpture was particularly active in non-forested regions such as floodplains or tidal flats.
