Periglacial phenomena in the region of Hlucin and Opava

The paper contains a description of some periglacial phenomena from the region of Hlucin and Opava. The writers established the occurrence in this area, of ice-wedges, frost-kettles, solifluction, involutional deformations of varved sediments and phenomena due to cryotectonic causes. All these structures with the exception of the exposure near Bohuslavice are developed in glacio-fluvial or glacio-lacustrine deposits. The authors distinguish syngenic and epigenic ice-wedges. Some of the wedges originated during the Riss glaciation (syngenic wedges of glacio-fluvial or glacio-lacustrine accumulation). More recent structures such as ice--wedges and solifluction were formed during Wurm I or II. The situation of the ice-wedge at Uhlirov near Opava which was found to intersect tectonic dislocations permits to define the age of these dislocations as Würmian.
