Remarks on the importance of periglacial processes for studies of Carpathian morphogenesis

Some profiles in Podhale demonstrate the overlay of clay-debris congelifluction covers over Late Pleistocene fluvial accumulation series. This suggests that the main intensification of fluvial accumulation in the Carpathians occurred at the end of the interglacial, not during the glacial period itself. In Poronin, this is confirmed by pollen analysis of fossil humus buried under the congelifluction cover. In the Brenica Valley in the Silesian Beskids, a loess patch was found on the congelifluction deposit. This suggests the following sequence of accumulation processes in the Carpathians: fluvial, congelifluction, and aeolian accumulation. However, further research will confirm the validity of this sequence.
