Notes on the origin of late-glacial lacustrine deposits in north-eastern Poland

Late-glacial silty-clayey deposits dating back to the Younger Dryas are of common occurrence in NE Poland. The present writer examined the mineralogical and grain-size composition of the deposits as well as the content of CaCO3 and organic substance. The deposits are of eolian origin and were laid down under periglacial conditions during periods when a compact vegetation cover was lacking.
