The paper is devoted to the study of kurums – typical periglacial formations. The geographic range, the history of their formation and the terminology have been analysed. Latitudinal zoning and altitudinal zonation of kurum formation predetermined by the interrelation of the climatic factor, the lithologic features of the rocks and the composition of unconsolidated deposits have been shown. The movement of the rudaceous mantle of the kurums caused by a number of factors, the main of which is „deserptium", has been investigated in detail. The interrelation of kurum dynamics with the temperature regime of the underlying rocks has also been shown.
